Dog cookies naturally sweetened with banana's and medjool dates. They are naturally coloured using tumeric (which also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent). Cut these cookies using crescent cookie cutters to get a banana shaped cookie.

  • 1 1/2 cups oat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown rice flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon ground
  • 1-2 tsps tumeric
  • 1 tbs flax meal
  • 2 1/2 tbs water
  • 8 large medjool dates (pitted and soaked for 30 minutes to soften)
  • 1 cup very ripe bananas
  1. Preheat an oven to 180C (or 160C fan forced) and line two cookie trays with baking paper.
  2. Mix the flax meal with the water in medium bowl and allow to sit for about 5 minutes (or until thickened).
  3. Place the banana and medjool dates in a food processor and process until very smooth.
  4. Add in the remaining ingredients (except the banana mix) to the flax meal and stir to combine.
  5. Slowly add in the banana, until you get the consistency of a very firm dough.
  6. Dust a workbench and a rolling pin with some brown rice flour and roll out the cookie dough to about 1mm thick.
  7. Cut the cookie dough into shapes and place onto a baking tray (fairly close together, as they do not really expand much in the oven).
  8. Bake for approximately 15 minutes (or until lightly golden brown) then take out of the oven and set aside the cookies to cool on a wire rack.
